A BETTER Biodegradable Pot.

Change Starts with a Single Pot

CowPots are 100% BIODEGRADABLE pots, a great alternative to plastic and peat, RENEWABLE and RECYCLED!

Why are CowPots a better biodegradable pot?

100% Biodegradable Pot

CowPots are designed to break down in a single growing season. There are a lot of benefits to adding composted cow manure to your garden, including the fact that it attracts worms and microorganisms that deliver nutrients to your plants. CowPots have been trialed in numerous university studies. See how biodegradable pots compare.

Plastic & Peat Free

There is an estimated 500 Million tons of plastic waste generated in the horticultural industry each year. If we can stop using plastic grocery bags and straws, why not our growing pots? Every CowPot you grow in displaces one more plastic pot.

Minimal Root Disruption

Roots grow right through the pot wall. When it’s time to transplant, you don’t need to disturb the root base. Just place the entire biodegradable pot in the ground and the roots will continue to flourish. This dramatically reduces transplant shock.

Value added byproduct

CowPots are the invention of necessity. A dairy farmer had an abundance of manure and invented a solution to form biodegradable, plantable containers from this byproduct.

Quick and easy seedling transplanting

From seed starting to transplanting seedlings, CowPots are suited for each stage of your plants’ development. Stepping up a plant into a CowPot or planting into your garden, it’s so simple. Place the whole pot in the soil, completely covered. No need to crush or tear.

Renewable and Recycled

The raw material to make CowPots is composted cow manure. The cows are providing this resource 365 days/year. And before we form the manure into a CowPot, we capture renewable energy using a methane digester

Frequently Asked Questions:

Will it hold up long enough?

On average, CowPots are designed to stay intact for approximately 3 months in standard greenhouse growing conditions. This can vary based on watering practices.

#1 Growing Tip: Let the pot dry in between waterings to extend shelf life.

We recommend up to 16 weeks in standard greenhouse growing conditions for the #5, #6, #7 and #11 sized CowPots. The shelf life can be extended when there’s controlled watering and the pot can dry between waterings.

The #12 and #17 are thicker pots and can easily last the growing season with a controlled watering routine.

Peat bogs take 100 years to regenerate.  While peat pots are biodegradable pots, CowPots are a 100% renewable and natural alternative. Peat and other fiber pots are inert and have no nutrient value. The nitrogen in CowPots helps stimulate decomposition once planted in the ground.
