Biodegradable Greenhouse Pots

Cut out plastic & peat with better biodegradable greenhouse pots

There are a lot of choices when it comes to choosing greenhouse planting containers and trays. If you’re considering fiber or biodegradable containers, CowPots have unique benefits to offer.

  • Unrestricted root penetration through the porous pot walls is the most significant benefit that CowPots offer commercial growers.
  • Growers and landscapers benefit from labor savings because you plant the whole CowPot in the garden and field, no need to crush, tear or remove the pot.
  • CowPots break down within the same growing season, and can be planted directly into the garden or stepped up into a patio container. Either way, adding organic matter to your soil with no waste.
  • Smaller greenhouse pot styles are designed to last up to 12 weeks in standard greenhouse growing conditions. The #3 and #4 style pots are best suited for vegetables, herbs and flowering annuals.
  • Larger biodegradable container styles including the #5, #6 and #7 sizes are best suited for growing perennial herbs and higher value annuals like dahlias and canna lilies.

Reduce waste, reduce labor, improve soil and plant health.

CowPots Sniff Test

It’s made from cow manure, but does it smell like manure? We put CowPots to the test and asked people to give their honest opinion when asked, what does this pot smell like?

Purchase Wholesale CowPots from a Distributor

International Distributor: If you are a grower or retailer in Canada and are interested in ordering CowPots, you can order through the Canadian distributor.

Unlike plastic, CowPots are very porous. The pot will actually absorb moisture when you water your plants and acts as an extension of your growing medium. We strongly recommend allowing the pots to dry between waterings.

When the pot appears dark and is damp to the touch, the soil contents are also moist and do not need additional watering. As the soil and pot dry, the exterior will become light in color and will harden. Growers notice when it is cool and damp CowPots hold moisture and when it’s hot and dry they may dry out faster than plants growing in plastic pots.

What is the best container for a greenhouse?

We recommend the #3 and #4 style CowPots for seed starting and transplanting plugs that need up to 12 weeks in the greenhouse. It is important to manage the watering schedule so that the biodegradable containers are able to dry in between waterings. For plants needing a longer span in the greenhouse, we recommend the #5, #6 and #7 styles which are suited for up to 16 weeks in greenhouse growing conditions.

When should I put my plants in a greenhouse?

It’s very important to read the description on each seed packet for suggested seed start times and maturity dates. Crops like tomatoes benefit from being started early indoors while cucurbits (squash, cucumbers and pumpkins) are quick to germinate and spread and shouldn’t be started any more than 3 weeks before you’re ready to transition them outside. Read your seed packet for guidance.

How do you grow plants in a greenhouse?

Will it hold up long enough?

Are CowPots certified organic?

CowPots are an eco-friendly and natural alternative to plastic and peat but are not currently OMRI listed or approved for Certified Organic operations.
